You can only bring about change in your life – if you are ready.
‘Research shows that there is more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy than any other complementary therapy... by using hypnosis people can perform prodigious feats of self healing'.
The Health Education Guide to Complementary Medicine Therapies (1994)
Hypnosis or hypnotherapy is not mystical nor is the hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy is the most dramatically effective short-term therapy developed, which is unsurpassed in getting excellent results, and quickly. Hypnotherapy uses techniques practiced by therapists and counsellors, in conjunction with a natural state of the mind called hypnosis. Our mind has two parts: the conscious and the subconscious. The subconscious is where all the things that we have learnt to do without thinking are stored. For example, when we first learn to do something, it takes conscious effort, but as we master the skill, more and more control is given over to the subconscious mind, until eventually we perform the task without even thinking about.
The subconscious mind works differently to the conscious mind. The conscious mind
uses rational thought, while the subconscious processes symbols. The conscious is
good at working out how to do things, but the subconscious is good at doing things
for us, like when we develop skills or habits. The conscious mind works hard to understand
things, but the subconscious does not care how something works, it will use the first
thing it comes across irrespective of how well it works. The conscious mind can waste
time figuring things out just for the sake of it, but the subconscious will carry
on doing things in a certain way, even when it is totally clear that it is not in
our best interests. The subconscious mind is irrational and cannot tell the difference
between what is real and what is imagined. Hypnotherapy bypasses the critical conscious
mind, enabling the subconscious mind to take charge making it easy to effect change.
Conscious awareness does not bring about change, which means that even if you want to change, you may not be able to affect the change yourself. Consequently, that is why we find it difficult, if not impossible, to go against that subconscious belief and make a permanent change for the better. Using hypnotherapy you can affect changes in your subconscious thinking to bring it in to line with the conscious mind and change your life for the better. For example, consider someone who wants to shed excess weight. Their conscious mind knows they should eat less, and cut out cakes and biscuits, but the next time birthday cake comes round the office, they are unable to say “No”. Not only that, but find themselves going back for seconds! Why? Because the subconscious mind, for whatever reason, believes that eating makes it feel better, and the subconscious mind always wins.
